Janmashtami is the celebration of birthday of
children’s favourite god “Lord Krishna.”
Lord Krishna is the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Krishna is often described and portrayed as
an infant or young boy playing flute. Lord
Krishna was known for his love for milk, curd and butter. Krishna would graze cattle with his fellow
cowherd friends. At lunch time, he would
mix all the food brought by his friends with his own, and made a kala (means
mixture). Thus the message given by Lord
Krishna through gopalkala is that all people are equal and everyone has a right
to enjoy his or her beautiful life. We
should always share with others the good things that the god has blessed us
with.
Dahihandi or Gopalkala is celebrated on the next day of Janmashtami and
a dish called Gopalkala is served as Prasad.
The main ingredients are poha (puffed rice), curd, sugar, milk,
cucumber, chilly and salt. The human
pyramids are the main attractions of this day.
In our school too, a small and safe human pyramid was formed by class V
and VI students and the earthen pot was broken with great enthusiasm.
